Challenges

Despite its success, Despegar.com faces a constant battle to maintain its competitive differentiation and retain customer loyalty. To do so it must continually add new features to its website. In the last five years, the company’s software development team has grown from 100 to 600 personnel. During that growth the pressure to churn out new features overwhelmed the supporting IT infrastructure.

An aging IT infrastructure limited the number of new applications and upgrades that could be added.
Rising latencies in the storage infrastructure threatened to degrade the responsiveness of the customer-facing website.
Continuing business growth demanded more storage, raising capital and operating expenses.
