Data Compression

What is Data Compression?

Data compression is a technique to reduce the space required to store unique data on a storage solution. This maximizes capacity while minimizing the number of writes required to store unique data, resulting in increased storage efficiency and reduced costs.

At Pure Storage, inline compression reduces data to use less space than the original format. Append-only write layout and variable addressing optimize compression savings by removing the wasted space that fixed-block architectures introduce. Combined with deep reduction, inline compression delivers 2 – 4x data reduction, and is the primary form of data reduction for databases.
